Joanna Durkee is a local designer who divides her time between studying design at American River College, maintaining a personal fashion blog, and creating her eponymous line of clothing and accessories. She designs for carefree, confident young women who want to look cool and unique on the go but glamorous and edgy after dark. After getting her degrees in both Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising at ARC she would like to keep pursuing fashion and get a Bachelor’s degree at a fashion school either here in the West coast or where she ultimately hopes to move, New York to to keep pursuing her fashion career.
Durkee takes inspiration for her designs from many areas including historical periods, sports, plants, light, atmospheres, and cultures. Durkee translates her inspirations into feminine looks juxtaposed with hard lines, bold accessories, atmospherical colors and textures. Durkee sells her most popular items on Etsy and blogs about her projects in her personal style site Niviarsiaq.blogspot.com. Through her clothing line, Durkee’s goal is for women to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies in outfits that are unique and eye-catching.
